These fruit-shaped cookies are super cute -- and easier than they look! You can make them by taking fruit shaped cookie cutters to store-bought dough; then creating the caterpillar holes by poking out a circle of dough with a straw. Frost with royal icing, and display on a bed of colorful Trix or fruit loops cereal.
We're loving every bit of this Apple Cake! Follow the directions here to create this fruit-shaped cake, and bask in the glow of your "cool mom" status -- because seriously, how much more original could a birthday cake get?
Chinese paper lanterns make for beautiful decorations -- and an easy-to-assemble, giant Very Hungry Caterpillar. Bring the critter of the day to life with decorative paper lanterns, one in red and six in green or yellow. Make the caterpillar's face using green and yellow cardstock (for the eyes and nose) and big, fuzzy pipecleaners for the annentae. To create the appearance that the caterpillar is inching along, simply adjust the length of each lantern's fishing line so that they are varying heights.
A Very Hungry Caterpillar-themed birthday party means you can include healthy snacks at the party and still make them fun. Using this Caterpillar Straw Template, created by Gourmet Mom on the Go, kids can eat their snacks just like the hungry caterpillar himself! Just cut out the caterpillars from the template and tape them onto straws. Give each child a plate full of fruit and watch them nibble their way through.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar ate through one ice cream cone -- let your partygoers to the same. Here's our smart mom trick: to avoid a melty mess, use whipped cream in place of ice cream. Simply spray the whipped cream into the cone, add some rainbow-colored sprinkles on top, and garnish with a cherry.
